The lead single from the album 14 Shades of Grey. Chart: #66, #6 alternative, Recorded at Westlake Recording Studios, Los Angeles, California, USA, 2003. Produced by Josh Abraham. Engineered by Jon Berkowitz. 'Price to Play' is about the trap every band falls into. In the beginning, bands live to get their first contract and hitting the big time. Once they get there, reality sets in. They find themselves in a never ending cycle of album/tour, album/ tour. They just finish a major, lenghty tour and the record company is pressuring them to get ready for the next album. They need to get decent songs written quickly and meet schedules. Their free time evaporates and it is an endless cycle. While it initially applies to the band, the idea applies to life in general. - Larry - |

Aaron Lewis -"Lyrically, what started the song was my frustrations with having to be back in the studio writing more songs and feeling like we were underneath somebody's thumb, but it turned into a song that just applies to life in general. And it's kind of tongue-in-cheek because life isn't a game, but it's the price we pay to play this game that we call life." |
